The audit, in detail

How it works

  1. You enter your site's address and pay online.
  2. Veilleur reads up to 500 pages and reviews the quality of the French on 60 pages at most.
  3. You receive the link to your report by email, then a report every morning for 30 days to follow your fixes.

What the report holds

  • Two scores out of 100, one for Bill 96 and one for Law 25, and what lowers them.
  • Each finding with its severity, the page where it is and, when there is one, the passage at fault.
  • For the French reviewed, each passage flagged with its correction, ready to pass on to your developer or your agency.
  • Law 25: cookies before and after a refusal, the privacy policy and the person in charge of personal information.
  • What ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Google, Bing and Apple can read of your site.
  • The date of the check, to keep on file.

Questions

Is this legal advice?
No. The report is an automated, dated observation of your site. It is neither legal advice nor a guarantee of compliance. It shows you what to fix and keeps a dated record of your efforts.
How long does it take?
The report is ready within 24 hours, and its link reaches you by email. If the review of the French could not be done, Veilleur asks again by itself and sends you the complete report, at no charge.
Can I ask questions?
Yes, by email for 30 days: just reply to the report's email. You get a written answer within 3 business days. No call or appointment is needed.
What if my site has more than 500 pages?
The audit reads 500 of them. The review of the French starts with the legal, commerce and contact pages, where a mistake matters most.
What happens after the 30 days included?
Monitoring stops by itself and nothing is billed. You get a reminder 5 days before. To continue, monitoring costs $79 a month.
What do I do with the report?
Pass it on to whoever runs your site. Each finding says where it is and what to fix. If you received a letter from the OQLF, the dated report helps you prepare your answer.

Agencies and integrators

Ten client sites monitored every morning, a history per site, alerts to your address: $299/month, then $19/month for each additional site. One sale, every site monitored.

  • Each site gets its first full report the same day. Then one email every morning sums up all your sites, those with news first, at the address you give when you pay.
  • You add and remove sites from your subscription page. A site added beyond ten is paid at once for the rest of the month. A site stays in the plan at least 30 days.
  • By paying, you confirm you manage these sites for their owners (terms, section 4).

Other questions

What happens if someone complains to the OQLF?
The OQLF opens a file, writes to you with what it found and gives you a deadline to fix it. A fine only comes if nothing is corrected, or on a repeat offence. Veilleur is there so you learn it from a report rather than a letter, and so you have dated proof you were watching if the letter comes anyway.
What does Veilleur do to my server?
It identifies itself as VeilleurBot, respects your robots.txt, waits half a second between pages and stops at its budget. Twenty pages on the free tier is less than a curious visitor. For Law 25, it also opens your home page once as an ordinary visitor would, accepting nothing, then clicks the refuse button if there is one, to see the cookies a visitor gets before and after choosing.
Are prices in Canadian dollars?
Yes. Sales taxes are added where they apply. Invoices are in French for every customer, English buyers included: the Charter asks it of a Québec business, and for this product that is not a detail.
Can I cancel?
Whenever you want, from your subscription page: its link is at the foot of every email, and the "Your subscription" link at the foot of this site sends it to you. The current month or year is the last period billed.
What if monitoring is not for me?
Ask for the refund from your subscription page within 30 days of your first payment: it is refunded in full within 3 business days, the first month or the first year, and the monitoring stops. Once per business and per site, as the terms say.
